The Artist Bio:

What's the purpose of composers creating music? And what's the intention of poets writing poems? Painter Volker Mayr wishes his paintings can inspire people and create emotions. In addition, he wants to create images that capture the imaginations of viewers in their minds and hearts. Ever since childhood, he learned how to make emotions through colors and forms from his grandfather, the German artist Otto Gloßmann. And it has allowed him to let his impressions of nature express themselves in his paintings. Later, from roughly 1985, his non-figurative painting began to move towards abstract expressionism.

Volker's works arise from all the senses and emotions; they are sensual, unpremeditated, and full of a playful love for enigmatic details. Multiple and vibrant relationships between colors and surface textures are created by layers that form transparent views, bold and expressive, emotional and spontaneous. His dreams tend to be colorful but non-figurative. Thus, Volker's paintings follow his dreams. For instance, his WAA International Gold Award-Winning work “Fiesta” was a significant step in his progress to dream-inspired paintings, showing surprising details and hints of hidden secrets. Also, his recent painting "Grace Under Pressure (Hemingway)" may express recent developments that have led him to the more creative use of color and form.

Furthermore, he loves the challenge that an empty canvas brings to the artist: filling the void with a fantastic life that still retains its mysteriousness, making colors and forms move perpetually, and changing its rhythm, energy, and aura... With his paintings, Volker wants to trigger impulses that make the soul of the viewer vibrate.

Not only that, but it also leaves viewers with rich and infinite imagination space.

About This Artwork:

Title: Let's Face the Future and Act Now
Medium: Oil Painting
Size: About 31.5 x 39.5 in
Year: 2021

Description: This powerful and breathtaking painting shows nature in a riot with the elements of earth, water, fire, and storm. Creative inspiration comes from enormous challenges of the future, which force us to act now. In addition, this new artwork was repainted by the artist from an abstract work painted in 1992. From the actual view of climate change, he felt that the previous work was too beautiful, harmonious, and idyllic. The parts of the former painting are still visible, but the bold colors and gestural forms in the style of abstract expressionism of the over-painting dominate the new picture. This abstract painting has a signature and date on the front and a title, date, and signature on the back. It is ready to hang from a hook on the back. About This Artwork:

Title: Grace Under Pressure (Hemingway)
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 80 x 80 x 2 cm
Year: 2020

Description: Inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s wonderful word “Grace Under Pressure”, the artist wanted to transform this idea in his painting. Although there are many different interpretations of this famous saying, in the artist's sentiment, how we should confront challenges or threats is a matter of character, courage, and human greatness. Especially right now, people face challenges from climate change to water scarcity, from famine to war, from pandemic epidemics to deadly viruses. (CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO ENLARGE IT.)
